Facebook Is The Most Visited Website Of 2010, Google Settles for Second

Mark Zuckberg winning the Time’s Person of The Year 2010 award, Facebook replacing Yahoo as the third most visited website in World. So, it is no steep surprise to acknowledge that Facebook is now, by calculated stats, the most visited website in the world.

However, the irony of the fact is that Facebook has replaced none other than (yeah, hold your breath)..the Seattle giant Google to win the first place. Besides enjoying the luxuries of being the largest social networking website, Facebook has been silently snatching ground off some of the biggest contenders in the IT industry.
Barely a week since we reported of Facebook overpowering Yahoo in the number of visits, and now the social networking giant has spun another success story. But, this is not the end of scaling successes – not even close. We’ll continue to debate in our forthcoming posts on this, maybe.
Meanwhile you may want to take a look at the ‘top 5’ searches for an interesting set of miscellany. It’s right there, yeah, just after the break.
According to the data released by Hitwise, Facebook is the most visited website of 2010, apparently but silently rising itself to the throne that Google has been invincibly dominating for years.Deliberate to know the stats? We thought so.
Facebook claimed the top place as the most visited site in US trailing Google behind.Facebook.com held 8.93% of site visits from January to the November of 2010 while Google.com followed with 7.19% site visits for the same tenure.Yahoo.com claimed 3.30% visits to win the fourth place while YouTube settled at fifth with 2.65%.
Interestingly, Google still dominates Facebook if all Google sites’ visits are combined, which accounts to about 9.85% of the total visits recorded.
As far as our perceptions lead us, we’d consider that the majority of these hits are caused by users between the age of 13-40 years and maybe, people in the age group of 40-55 years fall second while the remaining credit is somehow divided among people of other age groups.
Reportedly, ‘Facebook’ was the most-searched term of 2010 followed by Facebook Login at the second position. Ironically, the term “facebook login” sprung to second place from the ninth place it held in 2009.
